Whiplash

Injuries Related To Auto Accidents Can Surface After The Crash Itself.

What Is Whiplash?

You owe your neck’s strength and flexibility to its unique structure. It is comprised of 7 vertebrae with layers of shock-absorbing tissue between them. Muscles and ligaments surround this alignment to provide support and flexibility. In a high-impact event like a traffic accident, your neck’s soft tissues are stretched past their natural limit. We call this whiplash.

Whiplash is the most common type of injury following an auto accident. Being struck from behind or by a larger vehicle increases your risk. Pre-existing arthritis compounds the chances of whiplash-associated disorders.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Whiplash

Take note if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Persistent or worsening neck pain

  • Neck pain increases when you move your head

  • Pain radiates from neck to shoulders and upper back

  • Tension headaches

  • Dizziness

  • TMJ or jaw pain

Symptoms may present immediately following an accident, but this is not always the case, as they may arise in subsequent days. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we recommend you come in for a consultation. Make an appointment online anytime. We are Here to Help.
