Do You Suffer From Jaw Pain?
What is TMJ?
Your jaw is part of a complex junction called the temporomandibular joint. It is comprised of the jaw bone, a small disc of cartilage-like tissue, and muscles. With several moving parts, it is not uncommon for problems to arise.
Most cases of TMJ are associated with an imbalance between the muscles that open and close the jaw. People may experience discomfort as a result of bad posture, teeth grinding, or jaw clenching. Even emotional stress can contribute to TMJ. Additionally, whiplash events increase the risk of experiencing TMJ by threefold.
Recognizing the Symptoms of TMJ
Take note if you are experiencing the following symptoms:
A “clicking” or “locking” sensation in your jaw
Difficulty opening your mouth
Pain in your jaw or surrounding area
Symptoms may become more pronounced when chewing. The aching sensation is usually centered in the front of your ear, but can also be felt throughout the face, head, neck, and shoulders.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, we recommend you come in for a consultation. Make an appointment online anytime.
